Major award to Winchelsea couple
The Lions Club of Winchelsea officially recognised the contributions to the local community by Maureen and Dick Ludmon with the award of the Alan J Harding Community Service Award. During the end-of-year Christmas function held at the Winchelsea Tea Rooms, Lions regional District Governor Mary Harlow was honoured to present the award, given for years of continuous service - including Maureen managing the Winchelsea Star for 10 years, Dick for 8 years, active participation in the Guild of St Thomas Church, cooking meals, and playing piano at the Winchelsea Hostel.
Invited to the dinner by Winchelsea Lions, Dick and Maureen accepted the award in person after an introduction by Roly Livingstone. District Governor Mary pointed out the importance of such contributions to the local community by its own members. The Alan J Harding Award is a reflection of the dedication, time and commitment shown by Maureen and Dick over a long period of time and occasionally through difficult circumstances. The members of the Winchelsea Lions Club congratulated the pair for their outstanding community work.
The District Governor also officially recognised the contributions to community service in general and the Winchelsea Lions in particular by Lions Murray Aisbett and Hugh McCallum. Awarded the Ian M Stockdale Humanitarian Award, each was presented with a framed certificate and lapel badge for many hours of voluntary work for the Winchelsea Lions Club.
The Lions Club of Winchelsea meets twice a month, actively supporting local, state, national and international projects. Fundraisers include selling sheep manure, the Walk To Wurdale, raffle tickets and more. Christmas Stocking raffle tickets are on sale now, available from Winchelsea Larder or on certain days the Lions table outside the Winchelsea IGA. Lions Christmas Cakes are also available, from Maguire's butcher and Winchelsea Larder. This year, the Lions Club is in addition running the Christmas Lights Competition, with a total prize pool of $300 to share between best business and best private Christmas lights & decorations.
