The Lions Club of Winchelsea

The Lions Club of Winchelsea held its first meeting of the year at the Senior Citizens' Club in Harding Street, Winchelsea. In brief ;

• Father Christmas (Winchelsea Lions version) put in 12hrs of appearances over the festive season, in his new Santa suit (much appreciated by the occupant).

• The chuck wagon was active at the Winchelsea Gun Club meets and in addition at the Geelong Regional Library's "Meet the Author" event. The chuck wagon also made an appearance to provide catering for an 18th birthday party, by all accounts a successful evening in all respects.

• Sheep manure continues to provide a steady addition to Lions Club funds, albeit in a muted way since the vandals struck late last year.

• The Winchelsea Lions Christmas Tree Lights were put up near the Hesse Rural Health hospital entrance, and looked great with a good reception.

• The Lions Club also ran a Winchelsea Christmas Lights competition, awarding $150, $100 and $50 shopping vouchers (for local businesses) to the top 3 best-lit houses. Read more details here.

• Paper recycling work continues, and the paper shed has even been extended with an additional lockup room for Lions equipment.

• The Winchelsea town clock internals will be taken down and sent away for conversion to digital workings within 30 days (ie. by March), being handled by the Surf Coast Shire

• The chuck wagon freezer may be having problems, and is currently being investigated to see if it is worth repairing or will need replacing.
  

• Thomas Austin (founder of Winchelsea) reportedly released the first rabbits in Australia at 5pm on the 7th May 1871 for hunting - causing untold damage to the Australian flora and fauna over subsequent decades. This May therefore marks 150 years of the rabbit!
