About Winchelsea

The historic town of Winchelsea lies on the Princes Highway west of Melbourne, about halfway between Geelong and Colac, in the state of Victoria, Australia. With a population of around 1500 people, Winchelsea was born as a ford crossing over the Barwon River for those heading out west to the southern coast (eg. Warrnambool) and beyond to Adelaide and South Australia.

Although a small country town, Winchelsea is growing as population and housing cost pressures push people further out of the cities. Its long history (over 150 years) has left Winchelsea with a legacy found in many small towns - a strong community spirit. The Lions Club of Winchelsa exemplifies this spirit, with an above-average commitment to its work relative to the number of members. The Lions Club projects and causes cover a wide range to benefit the whole community, and Winchelsea Lions have been recognised for their Club's achievements many times.

More information about Winchelsea can be found on the Historic Winchelsea website (historicwinchelsea.com.au), including news, weather, events and contacts.
